Seoul’s Youngdeungpo neighborhood will be revitalized by the new Times Square Mixed-Use (hybrid) Shopping Center. Times Square is planned to be 330,000㎡ making it more than twice the size of Seoul’s COEX underground shopping center. The site will be composed of an inner and outer mall as well as two high-rise office buildings.

So far retail giants Shinsegae Department Store and Emart have been confirmed as future tenants with Shinsegae Department Store also planning to open a separate luxury store for high-end retailers. In addition, Kyobo Book Store, CGV Multiplex (Cinemas), and Kyeongbang Department Store are planning to open there. Japan’s, SEGA is also planning to build a massive game park at the center as well.

Marriott Hotels is also engaged in plans to 15-story, 283-room hotel at the site as well. This area, currently one of the poorest in Seoul in regards to design and aesthetic will be further transformed as the nearby neighborhoods of Shindorim and Daesung are also planning massive redevelopment projects that include the Shindorim Technomart and Daesung D-cube city, which is being led by Jerde Partnerships of the US, the same group that led the Roppongi Hills project in Tokyo, Japan.

  1. hi~nice to meet you~ ^-^

  2. I have been to this mall 3 times in the last week, and will be going back today. It is a very nice mall, which has been deemed a new “hotspot”. Thought this mall is no “Hybrid” space. Who ever deemed the term “Hybrid Shopping Mall”, needs to look hybrid up in the dicitonary. The mall is very clean, modern, and has great shopping options, but it is nothing that extraordinary compared to malls in the United States. Well it is well above the U.S. standard of typical mall, but in Massachusetts (Where I’m from), we numerous malls that are at the same level as this one, or exceed this mall, and are just considered “normal”, not “Hybrid” (The Natick Collection for instance, is a masterpiece mall, which does not even compare to this mall”.

But I digress… This mall is a massive improvement to the Seoul landscape of shopping options. This is a Western style mall, that Dongdaemun cannot even compare to. This mall has Burberry, Emporio Armani, Zara, Guess, Swarovski, the North Face, an Aveda shop, and many more. The shops are not stalls either, they are full store fronts just the same in American malls. Also, there is the Shinsegae Luxury Hall, which is where the Burberry and Emporio Armani are located, along side Blvgari, Louis Vuitton, and numeorus other premium brands.

So in my opinion, this is a MUST visit, not to tourists coming to Korea, but to expats, who definitely need a break from Korean life, as this mall is OUT OF THIS WORLD… Haha not quite, but still a great place to spend your weekend!
